Kwan Yin Greeting Cards

I have a spiritual connection with Kwan Yin that serves as creative inspiration. What I feel in my heart, is reflected in my artwork...thus my clinic name, the Heart of Touch, a play on words!

My love of Kwan Yin led me to develop a line of greeting cards, and my most technically difficult print to date, a 9 colour large screen print of Kwan Yin standing on a dragon, in a blue sky with white clouds.

Who is Kwan Yin? She is the great Celestial Bodhisattva of Compassion in the Buddhist tradition (a "bodhisattva" is a being who attains Buddhahood but forgoes entering Nirvana in order to help others).

Her name means "she who harkens to the cries of the world". Kwan Yin is believed to comfort human beings and save them from disaster, and she manifests in numerous ways. In the countries where she is honoured, she is known by other names: Guan Shih Yin in China, Kannon in Japan, Quan Am in Vietnam, Kwan Seum Bosal in Korea.

The energy surrounding Kwan Yin yields compassion, love, hope, transformation, and a service to mankind. Those who are drawn to her remark on a journey enriched by her spirit and a cultivation of greater peace for humanity.

I desire to increase world awareness of the compassionate energy of Kwan Yin by "putting her spirit out there" with my art.

I embrace whole-heartedly the spirit and compassion of Kwan Yin and her presence, and I welcome her into my world, as thousands of others do, too. Together, the creation of a world that has more compassion, tolerance, and kindness, is possible.

Item KW-3. Kwan Yin in Mountains

Example of how a design was created: The Kwan Yin standing on the Water was sketched from a 10 inch, 50 year old china statue that belonged to my Mom. I then created a background from a photograph, and in the printing process, used two screens --one for the background, blending the ink from blue to purple, and then Kwan Yin herself was a single colour in gold.

These cards are not mechanically reproduced. Each is 5 x 7 inches, and hand printed (by silkscreen) onto 140 pound art card stock. They are blank on the inside, and on the back is a verse channeled from Kwan Yin (credit to Sandy Boucher, Discovering Kwan Yin, 1999.)
