Heart of Touch Wellcare Services
Whether you're a new parent interested in "well baby" care, a senior looking to improve function, or someone wanting to find better harmony within their body - you will find the gentle healing modalities below restorative and beneficial.
My services include care for those in discomfort as well as those who are in perfect health. Awareness of Mind, Body, and Spirit wellness is not so uncommon in our community, with the realization that good self care includes regular wellcare.
The modalities listed here can provide relief from many ailments as well as bringing balance back to the body. For structural alignment and energy balancing, pain relief, or freedom from general discomfort - Zero Balancing or Craniosacral therapy are both appropriate. Some find Zero Balancing reduces tension, integrates and supports the body-mind, and promotes greater feeling of well-being. Clients benefit from CranioSacral therapy due to its positive effects on the entire central nervous system, endocrine, muscular, respiratory and fascial system. Other clients enjoy feeling internally and externally balanced (yin/yang) with Acupressure, and come for balancing prior to undergoing surgery. Others welcome the comforting touch of Reiki energy, or Universal energy, for rebalancing and detoxification.
While all bodywork supports personal growth and healing, my clients report Zero Balancing and CranioSacral therapy to be especially helpful. Keeping ourselves balanced and
centered while leading busy lives allows us to handle the demands of life more easily.
Clients commonly observe an increased sense of well-being, greater feeling of relaxation; less anxiety; improved comfort; groundedness; clarity of mind, and feeling more "whole".
Sessions are tailored to meet the client's needs, and so clients may experience more than one modality if it is appropriate during their treatment.
Gift Certificates in any denomination are available, and ask about my ZB promotion: a Zero Balancing 5 time "punchcard" -no expiry- and save $25.00!
In addition to these wellness services, I am pleased to discuss any questions about a fitness or flexibility program. Drawing on over 20 years' experience as a personal fitness coach, strength trainer and flexibility instructor, I am happy to review your home exercises, stretching routines, or general questions about fitness.
CranioSacral Therapy
The Craniosacral System is a physiological system that exists in humans and animals possessing a brain and spinal cord. Its name is derived from the bones involved: the cranium and the sacrum. The membranes surrounding the brain, the dural tube that runs down the spine, and the fluids within, are all part of the craniosacral system.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive manipulative technique. Assessment is done by testing for movements in various parts of the system. Valuable information can be gained very quickly by palpating the Craniosacral motion for rate, amplitude, symmetry and quality. Often when movement testing is complete, the restricting obstacle has been removed and your system completes its self-correction. An imbalance in the Craniosacral System can adversely affect the development and function of the brain and spinal cord which can result in sensory, motor and intellectual dysfunction.
This therapy encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of the brain and spinal cord, to dissipate the negative effects of stress, and to enhance your general health and resistance to disease. Some common health issues that respond favourably with Craniosacral Therapy are: head ache, migraines, visual disturbances, autism, dizziness, ear infection, dyslexia, ADHD, inflammatory conditions, and other misunderstood dysfunctions.
Infants and young children especially benefit as early therapy can potentially reduce central nervous system problems that could lead to developmental delays and many other health challenges. Craniosacral therapy for newborns is highly recommended - its safe, risk free and an excellent modality to clear any birth trauma and medications from the system. CST is also helpful in supporting pregnancies and preventing fetal entrapment as the pregnancy progresses.
Consider this excellent health enhancing modality even if "there's nothing wrong". A more highly functioning organism is desirable for anyone, whether aged or infant.
CranioSacral Therapy investment is $55.00 for a one hour session. 90 minute sessions are available at $80.00. Family and Children's rates are reduced (please inquire).

Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure
A typical Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure session is about 90 minutes. The client is fully clothed, and comfortably lying down on a massage table. I ask questions relevant in gaining insight to the client's health, ie. diet, sleep patterns, digestion.
A session is designed according to the client's concerns and usually includes local points (where actual discomfort may be) as well as global points (these points can balance the whole system, meridian or "strange flow".)
The Jin Shin Do approach uses pulse observation and a visual examination of the tongue, as well as noting issues that lay within the 5 Elements- seasonal patterns of excess, balance, or deficiency. The meridians and organs each have their own time of significance over the 24 hour day. The Chinese have been studying the human body in health and sickness, for over 5000 years, and these observations can reveal information about the organism.
Jin Shin Do Bodymind practitioners do not diagnose medical conditions but can offer relief of symptoms and encourage the body to harmonize in a natural manner.
I like to begin the session with a 'meridian' massage, gently massaging the head, neck, shoulders, and down the arms, and legs of the client.
From there, I'll choose which points to focus on, and I will hold two at a time, often at opposite parts of the body. This encourages the chi, or qi, to move and open up the congested areas. I like to hold these points until I can feel the energy gather and build. It feels like heat, a pulsation, or sometimes a vibration on the pressure point.
Jin Shin Do can offer relief for headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, back pain, menstrual problems, dizziness, blood pressure issues, and insomnia. Regular Jin Shin Do sessions help to restore overall balance to the body, by regulating excesses and deficiencies, whether in the organs, or related meridians, or what manifests in the physical/emotional field.
I would recommend Jin Shin Do for the general population to address any health issues, and for those already enjoying good health, as a 'tonic', refreshing and rejuvenating.
Jin Shin Do sessions (1 1/2 hours): $80.00 cdn. Senior or student rate: $55.00 cdn.
Developed by Dr. Fritz Smith, MD., Osteopath, and 5 Element Acupuncturist, Zero Balancing is at the leading edge of body/mind therapy. Zero Balancing has its roots in the East, but also melds with Western-oriented scientific thought. This profound bodymind therapy is quiet, gentle, and non invasive.
Zero Balancing aligns and integrates body energy and the physical structure. When the physical structure and energy systems of the body are balanced, stresses that don't serve us fall away. We are clearer, more grounded, and function with far greater ease. Outmoded emotional habits, patterns, and behaviours tend to release. There is a enhanced sense of well being and satisfaction that is difficult to describe but the body knows and recognizes this "ease of being".
A session is 40-45 minutes, with the client remaining clothed. A Zero Balancing protocol is followed, and through the session, fingertip touch to areas holding discomfort are offered: these are termed 'fulcrums'. The results from this gentle touch vary from person to person, but typically a person experiences complete relaxation and enjoys a freer range of movement about their bodies.
The effects of a Zero Balancing session continue to build for several days. Observations will vary depending on the individual. Feelings of "lightness of being", greater sense of comfort, and increased well being are common.
ZB has been described as 'like massage, with your clothes on, and like psychotherapy, but without the talking' and I recommend it to anyone suffering from discomfort, anxiety, physical or emotional stress. And for those who already feel good....you can feel even better!
Performance Athletes may notice greater ease in keeping mental focus, better balance, and posture. Commonly, athletes also find they enjoy improved ease of movement, release of restrictions, freedom from stressors, and increased inner calm. ZB promotes clearer energetic fields, and benefits each individual uniquely. Receiving a Zero Balancing session a day or two prior to an event is optimal, from a performance viewpoint. Athletes don't need to be injured or in rehabilitation to appreciate the balancing effects of ZB. Consider a session in the off season and get in touch with your body-mind.
Children also benefit from Zero Balancing sessions. They are keen observers and notice greater comfort in their bodies. They simply like to "feel good" and enjoy sessions.

Zero Balancing is $50.00 for the first session (one hour) and $45.00 for subsequent sessions (approximately 40 minutes).
Children enjoy a reduced family rate.
A combination of Zero Balancing/Craniosacral therapy/Reiki, or Acupressure is available for $55.00 (one hour).
Our four footed friends benefit from Zero Balancing, too. Mobile service is available for horses, ponies, dogs, rabbits, and other family pets. Please call to discuss your needs,
and be assured my mobile rates are as reasonable as my office rates.

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning, "Universal Life energy" or the Divine life-giving force. It is a healing modality that has its roots in Japan, and the founder who rediscovered this old healing system, Mr.Mikao Usui (1865-1926), taught many students who, over the years, brought Reiki to the western world. In his teachings are the 5 "admonitions" from Emperor Meiji, which were meant to be used as a guide to a way of life. The title "The Secret to Inviting Happiness", embraces Mr. Usui's belief in spiritual medicine.
Just for today, don't get angry
Just for today, don't worry
Just for today, give thanks and be grateful to others
Just for today, earn your living honestly
Just for today, be kind to all living things
From the origins of Reiki through Mr. Usui, his mission remains: "first of all, heal the spirit, secondly make the body healthy, lead a peaceful and happy life, heal others; and then make yourself and others happy".
Reiki is gradually becoming better known and not so mysterious, thanks to the thousands of practitioners spread over the world. It truly is a non-invasive healing energy. Hands can be held off the body, or on, depending on client preference. You can think of it as a "natural hands on healing" method that taps into the universal life energy that always surrounds us.
I have treated individuals with complaints such as varicose veins, back pain, headaches, nausea, arthritis of the feet, knees, and hips, and muscular discomfort of all kinds. Reiki is wonderful as a first aid measure, and often is the first thing I turn to "out in the field" for ankle sprains, minor wounds, scrapes and bumps.
Reiki has five main effects:
brings about deep relaxation
dissolves energy blockages
detoxifies the body
supplies healing universal-life force energy
increases the vibrational frequency of the body
Reiki healing sessions are 30 to 60 minutes. Local areas or the whole body can be treated and the client remains fully clothed, relaxing comfortably on a fleece-covered massage table. There is no religious context nor dogma with Reiki, and no need to understand or "concentrate" whilst being treated. Simply just "be" and listen to soft music while the session is in progress. The energy automatically flows to where it is needed, with me as the facilitator or the "channel". Again, regular reiki will help to increase vibrational life-force to an individual, releasing stress, and promoting relaxation and wellness.
Reiki is appropriate for sick or injured pets, too. Although uncertain what animals experience when treated with Reiki, I notice that they become quieter, more relaxed, and seem to 'let go'. Treatment can be systematic or local to the area of pain or injury. Please inquire about my mobile service for animals.
Reiki healing sessions are $25.00 for 30 minutes, and $40.00 for 1 hour. Mobile service for pets is available also; please call to inquire. I am a certified Reiki Master-Teacher, however regret to say I'm currently not teaching due to my client load.
